Environment Assets

Over the course of developing Buggy Bogey, we made many interactable assets for players to pick up. However, we needed to fill the environment with assets that feel interesting to explore. At a carnival, "crumbs" refers to various objects that are left behind by human activities, categorized by size and type.

Extra small to small "crumbs" are identified as food and beverages related items such as corndogs, popcorn soda cups or anything that is easily dropped or discarded during a visit.

Medium "crumbs" consist of larger, yet movable objects like benches, carnival toys, food carts. Anything that is found in a carnival but not intentionally left behind

As for Large to X-Large assets, such as cars, structural buildings, game booths, dumpsters or portable toilets usually help for map creation and layout. However, under the right conditions, some of these larger assets can be also treated as "crumbs." These "crumbs" are essential for the gameplay as there are for players to pick up, which then goes towards their points. The more you collect, the higher for the score the players receives.

We came to an important agreement that we need to have bigger assets that are needed to fill the environment. Having common objects such as cars, portable toilets, dumpsters, and fences just to name a few. These common objects give us more flexibility to fill up the empty areas in the level, as well as reducing the time to create new larger assets. We also have some special unique environment assets, such as a clown head that spits out "crumbs" to the ground to allow players to receive massive points if they are fortunate to hit the clown head. However, players will not always know which gives the encouragement of exploration and curiosity as they discover hidden interactions throughout the level.

Visuals like a Farris wheel with bright lights and hi-striker adorned with colorful lights not only contribute to the carnival esthetic but also make the environment more engaging and fun to explore. These larger assets help guide players through the level while keeping them focused on the primary object collecting as many "crumbs" as possible to achieve the highest score.

As additional Medium and X-large assets are being developed, it will further enhance the level and provide more flexibility in modifying the layout of the level. This will help guide players more naturally toward the final objective, creating a more cohesive and dynamic gameplay experience.
